The Metro railway system and service are operational in 10 cities in India. These are Kolkata, Delhi, Bengaluru, Gurugram, Mumbai, Chennai, Jaipur,Ahmadabad , Hyderabad, and Lucknow. The Kolkata Metro rail is the oldest metro service in the country. The metro rail has become the most affordable and convenient mode of travel. Metro rail is providing good connectivity in the congested cities of India and its success has made a case for setting up the metro rail in other cities where there is a large urban population and traffic congestion.

KOLKATA METRO

The Kolkata Metro rail is the oldest metro service in the country. Established in 1984, Kolkata Metro is currently covering a total distance of 27.22 kilometres and is serving 24 stations.

DELHI METRO (NCR)

The Delhi Metro, which began operations in 2002, is the largest metro in the country by distance covered. Currently, Delhi Metro is covering a distance of 231 kilometres and has 160 stations in operations. More stations and tracks are being added.

HYDERABAD METRO

The Hyderabad Metro is a rapid transit system, serving the city of Hyderabad, Telangana, India. It is the second longest operational metro network in India after the Delhi Metro (250 stations) with 50 stations and the lines are arranged in a secant model.  As of April 2019, about 265,000 people use the Metro per day

BENGALURU METRO

The Namma Metro serves the city of Bengaluru and became operational in 2011. It covers a distance of 42.3 kilometres.

GURUGRAM METRO

The Rapid Metro, which is operational in Gurgaon, covers an area of 11.7 kilometres. The other metros are also covering a particular stretch and in the times to come will see the addition of more tracks.

MUMBAI METRO

The Mumbai Metro is a rapid transit system serving the city of Mumbai, Maharashtra, and the wider metropolitan region. The system is designed to reduce traffic congestion in the city, and supplement the overcrowded Mumbai Suburban Railway network

JAIPUR METRO

Jaipur metro is a rapid transit system in the city of Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. Construction on the mostly elevated part of the first line, called Phase 1A, comprising 9.63 kilometres (5.98 mi) of route from Mansarovar to Chandpole Bazaar, started on 13 November 2010, and was completed in 2014. The project’s commercial run was delayed to December 2014, and then to April 2015. After receiving safety clearance from Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) in May 2015, Jaipur Metro began commercial service between Chandpole and Mansarovar on 3 June 2015.The Jaipur Metro Rail system is India’s sixth metro rail system

LUCKNOW METRO

 Lucknow Metro is a rapid transit system serving the city of Lucknow in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .Construction of the line begun on 27 September 2014 with the 8.5 km (5.3 mi) stretch from Transport Nagar to Charbagh Railway Stationwhich began its commercial operation on 5 September 2017, making it the fastest built metro rail system in the country. Full operation on Red Line stretch from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport metro station to Munshi Pulia metro stationbegan operation on 9 March 2019

CHENNAI METRO

The Chennai Metro is a rapid transit system serving the city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The system commenced service in 2015 after partially opening the first phase of the project. AHMEDABAD METRO

Ahmedabad Metro is a rapid transit system for the cities of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar in Gujarat, India. It is being built by Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) Limited (formerly Metro-Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad or MEGA), a Special Purpose Vehicle company constituted in 2018 to implement all metro projects in Gujarat. The company was established in February 2010 and the Phase–1 of the project was approved in October 2014. Construction of Ahmedabad Metro started on 14 March 2015, and Phase-1 is expected to be completed by 2020.
