Established in 1922, University of Delhi is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the metropolis of New Delhi (population range of over 5,000,000 inhabitants), NCT of Delhi. JAWAHARLAL NEHRU UNIVERSITY (JNU), NEW DELHI

Established in 1969, JNU rates amongst the top universities in India. It has collaborated with global universities for research projects and conferences. JNU has active MoUs with foreign & Indian universities for faculty and student exchange programs and hosts the Indian segment of some global degree programs. University Grants Commission (UGC) approved. Member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

CENTRAL UNIVERSITY OF ORISSA

The Central University of Orissa has been established by the Parliament under the Central Universities Act, 2009 (No. 3C of 2009). It is one of the 15 new Central Universities established by the Government of India during the UGC XI Plan period to address the concerns of “equity and access” and as per the policy of the Government of India to increase the access to quality higher education by people in less educationally developed districts which have a Graduate Enrollment Ratio of less than the national average of 11%. Koraput District of Orissa comes within the KBK region (Koraput, Bolangir and Kalahandi) which is still considered as an extremely as underdeveloped region of the State of Orissa These three districts of the State are known for tribal culture, because majority of the people here belong to ST and SC categories. Since there is no University or any other national level educational set up in this region the Central University is proposed to be established here so that it may widen the access to quality higher education in the country.

INDIAN INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE, BENGALURU

Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is a public institute for research and higher education in science, engineering, design, and management. It is a premier scientific research institute in India and has been ranked 1st in the ‘university’ and ‘overall’ category for the last three consecutive years (2016–18) in the NIRFrankings (by the Government of India). Located in Bangalore, India, IISc was established in 1909 with active support from Jamsetji Tata and Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV and thus is also locally known as the “Tata Institute”. It was granted the Deemed University status in 1958.

SAVITRIBAI PHULE PUNE UNIVERSITY, PUNE

Savitribai Phule Pune University, one of the premier universities in India, is positioned in the North-western part of Pune city. It occupies an area of about 411 acres. It was established on 10th February, 1949 under the Poona University Act. The university houses 46 academic departments. It is popularly known as the ‘Oxford of the East’. It has about 307 recognized research institutes and 612 affiliated colleges offering graduate and under-graduate courses. The university attracts many foreign students due to its excellent facilities. ALIGARH MUSLIM UNIVERSITY, ALIGARH

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is an Indian public central university. It was originally established by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan as Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College in 1875. The College became Aligarh Muslim University in 1920.[4] The main campus of AMU is located in the city of Aligarh. It has its three off-campus centres at Malappuram (Kerala), Murshidabad (West Bengal) and Kishanganj (Bihar). The university is an Institute of National Importance provided under the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution at its commencement.

BANARAS HINDU UNIVERSITY (BHU), VARANASI.

Established in 1920, Aligarh Muslim University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Aligarh (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), Uttar Pradesh. UNIVERSITY OF HYDERABAD, HYDERABAD

The University of Hyderabad (IAST: Haidarābād visvavidyālayamu) is a public research university located in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Founded in 1974, this mostly residential campus has more than 5,000 students and 400 faculty, from several disciplines.[1] The Governor of the state of Telangana is ex-officio the Chief Rector of the University, while the President of India is the Visitor to the University. The university was established along the lines of the Six-Point Formula of 1973. The first Vice-Chancellor of the University was Banaras Hindu University organic chemist Gurbaksh Singh, from 1974 to 1979. Shri B D Jatti was the first chancellor of the University.

ANNA UNIVERSITY, CHENNAI                   

Anna University is a state technical university in Tamil Nadu, India. The main campus is in Guindy, Chennai and the satellite campus is in Chromepet, Chennai. It was established on 4 September 1978. It is ranked the tenth institution in India overall by the National Institutional Ranking Framework,ranked fourth among universities, and ranked eighth in engineering. The main campus houses the College of Engineering, Guindy; Alagappa College of Technology, School of Architecture and Planning, and three technical departments of the University of Madras. The Madras Institute of Technology is located in the Chromepet campus.

JADAVPUR UNIVERSITY, KOLKATA.

Jadavpur University is a public state university located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The National Institutional Ranking Framework has ranked it 12 among engineering institutes in India in 2018, 13 overall and 6th among universities. JU has achieved autonomous university status by UGC in 2018. The hegemony of the British establishment had to be challenged. Education had to play a new role in this changed scenario. It had to become a new form of resistance through which the emergent nationalist spirit could be propagated. With this in mind the National Council of Education (NCE) came into being.
